Translation – Explanation and Caution

The electronic translation service on Surrey Libraries' website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation may vary in some of the languages offered by Google. The goal of the basic translation is to capture the general intention of the original English material.

Surrey Libraries cannot guarantee the quality, accuracy, or completeness of any translated information.  Before you act on translated information, we encourage you to confirm any facts that are important to you and the decisions you make.

The City of Surrey offers interpretation services at all its facilities. If you have a question about the material you read on the Surrey Libraries website, we encourage you to contact Surrey Libraries to discuss it.  You can also contact the City of Surrey at 604-591-4011 to receive interpretation support.

Adult Literacy Tutoring

Learn with a Friend, an adult literacy program

What is Learn with a Friend?

The program is free and confidential and offers one-on-one tutoring to learners 19 years of age and older.

Learners are paired with a tutor and receive individualized tutoring specific to their needs and interests. Tutor and learner meet for approximately one to three hours per week in a public space, such as a library.

Learn with a Friend is a partnership between Surrey Libraries, Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Volunteers

Volunteers with Learn with a Friend will provide literacy/numeracy tutoring and support of adult learners on a one-to-one basis.

Qualifications

• Excellent reading, writing and oral communication skills.*
• High School graduation or equivalent.
• Competent in areas of reading, writing, and math.
• At least 19 years of age.

* Because you will be training others, only those with a ‘high-level’ command of English will be considered.
