Translation – Explanation and Caution

The electronic translation service on Surrey Libraries' website is hosted by Google Translate. The quality of the translation may vary in some of the languages offered by Google. The goal of the basic translation is to capture the general intention of the original English material.

Surrey Libraries cannot guarantee the quality, accuracy, or completeness of any translated information.  Before you act on translated information, we encourage you to confirm any facts that are important to you and the decisions you make.

The City of Surrey offers interpretation services at all its facilities. If you have a question about the material you read on the Surrey Libraries website, we encourage you to contact Surrey Libraries to discuss it.  You can also contact the City of Surrey at 604-591-4011 to receive interpretation support.

Learn about the Family History Department

The Surrey Libraries Canadian Family History Collection is housed at the Cloverdale Library. Located in the heart of Cloverdale, Surrey's historic town centre, this modern 10,000 sq. ft. two-story facility is fully wheelchair accessible. Find the Family History department on the second floor of the library.

The Family History department includes five microfilm/fiche reader/printers, a photocopier, four dedicated computers with Ancestry Library Edition, HeritageQuest, FindMyPastWorld, Points to the Past, and Scotland Places (additionally one station has the Ship & Seafarers of Atlantic Canada database), and a general use meeting room for Family History programs.

Document Delivery Services

The Family History department offers a limited look up service. Staff will locate specific records on microfilm, in print or family history databases if adequate information is provided and extensive research is not involved. Records can be delivered either by email in PDF format, by fax, or by regular mail for a fee of $5.00 per item. Postal or fax charges will apply. BC Archives Vital Statistics
BC Archives now has a new site for BC Vital Events Records. Many records have been digitized and are now accessible online. Records are added periodically. Check the BC Archives first when searching for BC birth, marriage and death records.
