The Story of Walter & Jazzy

Walter & Jazmine represent the diversity of Surrey, celebrating learning and playing together. The mascots were chosen by vote — kids preferred the bear, and the frog won over the adults! Walter, the bespectacled nature-loving bear, and Jazzy, the tech-savvy frog, are now the best of friends!

About the Artist

Chris Hamilton has loved drawing since he can remember and started cartooning professionally when he was just 16 years old! His illustrative artwork has appeared in newspapers, magazines and books, and of course on his own kids' music CDs (Sticky Situations and Boogie Child). Chris is also a popular children's entertainer who performs all over BC.

Originally from Ontario, he has been a regular patron of Surrey Libraries for 10 years now. You can often find him digging through the graphic novels or CD collections, or recently attending storytimes with his daughter. Chris likes to use art supplies that kids could use too. The images of Walter & Jassy are watercolour paintings on illustration board with ink and coloured pencil detailing.
