Authors Among Us: Self-Awareness
Come to meet and hear our local authors who will talk about their books, writing process, and publishing experience.
Lesley Taylor is the author of The Dynamic Introvert: Leading Quietly with Passion and Purpose which she self-published. She is also the author of numerous articles on topics ranging from leadership, healthy aging and writing. During the pandemic Lesley began writing her first novel, a mystery based in the Okanagan. When she’s not writing Lesley can be found trying out new recipes or enjoying a spin class at her local community centre.
Marlo Browne is a Barbadian author who has self-published four books. All books are available on Amazon and the UEL marketplace on Granville Island in British Columbia. His first 2 books, Pictorial: Writing for Stars that want to return to Constellations (2019) and Marlo Browne presents: The Young and Gifted (2021), received 5-star reviews on Amazon. Thoughts of a Mature Mind was published in 2022. His latest book, The Life and Times of a Poet, was released in 2023 and has also received a 5-star review on Amazon. Marlo is a very versatile poet who has been featured many times online. His work spans several topics such as social injustice, mental well-being, love, race, health disorders and many more. Marlo has performed at several open mics and events in Langley, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, New Westminster, Surrey, White Rock, and Vancouver. Marlo has also participated multiple times in author showcases at Vancouver Public Library. He performed at this year’s Verses Festival at the Wise Hall in Vancouver. His business, A Pint of Knowledge, was nominated in the best solopreneur category at the Black Excellence Awards in 2023. As a film maker, he is the co-author of the short film 'I'm Sorry' which placed second in the short film category at the Langley City Film Festival. He is also a member of several literary associations such as the Delta Literary Arts Society and the Federation of BC Writers. Marlo is the current Poetry slam champion of Da Luv Jones Poetry Showcase.
Robert W. Mackay attended UBC and spent 13 years in the Canadian navy with service in destroyers and submarines. He subsequently taught school and practised law. His first novel is the gold-medal-winning Soldier of the Horse, the story of his father’s time in the WW I Canadian Cavalry Brigade. His second novel, Terror on the Alert, is set in a Canadian submarine during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His latest, The Forgotten: A Novel of the Korean War featuring Canadian action in the Korean War, was published in October 2024. Robert is a national director of the Canadian Authors Association and coordinated CAA reviewers with the Whistler International Book Awards process in 2023 and 2024.
