Indigenous Services Coordinator 

Surrey Libraries invites applications for a full-time (35 hours/week) Indigenous Services Coordinator position. This position performs a variety of duties related to providing welcoming and inclusive services and programming to local Indigenous communities and the broader Surrey community. This position reports to the Director, Programs and Partnerships. Work is performed without direct supervision and with considerable independence of judgement and action.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plans and organizes services, runs programs, and does outreach
  • Engages with local First Nations, Metis, and Inuit community organizations, and the local urban Indigenous community to promote library use and community engagement
  • Participates in related committees and projects

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Completion of a relevant undergraduate degree, or an equivalent combination of directly related work experience, training, and courses (e.g. a recognized post-secondary program in Indigenous studies, social sciences, adult learning, community development, or social services).
  • Over 2 years experience establishing relationships, partnering, and working with local Indigenous communities in and around Surrey.
  • Indigenous background and lived experience from the local Indigenous land-based nations or local urban Indigenous communities. 
  • Lived knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Metis, or Inuit community needs.
  • Ability to problem-solve, interpret needs and offer solutions.
  • Ability to assess community interests and needs, and to plan services accordingly.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues and community partners.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, creativity, initiative, and accountability.
  • Commitment to continuous development and growth.

Rate of pay: $38.20-$39.13/hour
