Food Skills for Families

Connecting people in the kitchen, teaching hands-on cooking skills and making healthy eating, grocery shopping and cooking easy, quick and fun. A ‘hands-on’ skill-building program developed by dietitians and educators. Participants learn how to make healthy meals and how to make healthier snack and beverage choices while gaining confidence in the kitchen.

Outreach locations in Surrey and Langley include a hot meal and additional support to the community’s vulnerable citizens on the street that include free haircuts, street-level nursing, drop-in recovery.  

  • The meal service is available from 7 - 8 pm every night of the year in Surrey, and Monday through Thursday evenings at 7pm in Langley.  
  • Weekday afternoons (Monday – Friday) from 2 – 4 pm, a drop-in program at the Surrey location invites vulnerable individuals to come in off the street to enjoy a hot coffee, a snack and relax.

  • Try to buy bulk food. Many stores called “markets” buy and sell in bulk
  • Independent markets are often less pricey for fruits and vegetables
  • Large stores with memberships often give special prices to their members
  • Try buying as a group to get the case price
  • Buy wholesale for bread and freeze what you do not use
  • The library has books on how to save on food costs

BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program

Provides farmers’ market coupons that can be spent at local farmers markets. Program is for lower-income pregnant persons, seniors/elders, and families with children.  Each household enrolled in the program may receive up to $27/week in coupons for up to 16 weeks. The program runs throughout the summer when produce is most abundant across the province.

Too Good To Go is an app designed to help reduce food waste. Users can to purchase surplus food from restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores at a reduced price. You can find local businesses offering "surprise bags" of food that would otherwise go unsold. The app shows available options, prices, and pickup times, making it easy to snag a good deal while helping to combat food waste!

Serves both Muslims and Non-Muslims. Provides food hampers on a monthly basis to those in need who have dietary restrictions whether religious or cultural. Also offers a range of supports for clients and new refugees to help aid with settlement.

Our program also provides Clothing Vouchers twice a year (summer/winter) to those who are in low-income residing in South Surrey/White Rock/Delta area. During Christmas time our programs provides toys to families with children and Hampers to individuals who do not have enough resources to enjoy a nutritious Christmas meal.

Provides weekly support to residents of White Rock and South Surrey area (south of 40 Ave; west of 196 St.) experiencing food insecurity.  All adults (19+) must register in person providing photo ID, proof of address, as well as proof of dependents if applicable.  Food distribution hours are Tuesdays 9:30am to 3:30pm, Wednesdays 10am-6pm and Thursdays 10:00am to 2:00pm.  A Mobile Food Bank is available for those experiencing mobility barriers.

Also have a seniors 65+ depot (call for dates).  Also have depots in Cloverdale, Guildford, and North Delta.
