General Register of Chinese Immigration: The UBC department of History recently indexed the General Register of Chinese Immigration.
Microfilm
Between 1887-1923 Chinese people wishing to immigrate were required to pay a $500.00 tax. The records of these payments provide a wealth of information about the immigrants. The microfilmed records are organized by the date immigration certificates were issued. The department holds a collection of popular family history magazines such as Internet Genealogy and Family Tree. Articles within these magazines may include information specific to Canada and Canadian provinces. Newsletters and magazines can be borrowed with a Surrey Libraries card.
